Wow!!!! Finally we are treated to a real climax to this very long and convoluted story about our two heroes. It is achingly sad, but it is very beautiful. Thanks for having the courage to write it and the final resolution in "At A Distance."
Of course it is not really the end, as these stories go. You've shown us that the sky is the limit. I wait and hope for more of your great writing!

I do not agree with Kiwibird. I think Solo would have needed more than Illya to be beaten to anger him to the point of wanting to commit murder. I don't think the rape was detrimental to the story at all. Perhaps you should have given a warning. I enjoyed it very much, it was sad and very touching and the sequel more so. I just don't know why they didn't make up sooner.
Very well written. Thank you.

This is heartbreaking. The sadness of both characters permeates the entire piece. Even Napoleon choosing not to kill the SOBs who raped Illya was sobering because he didn't want to be anything other than the man Illya loves. This is great writing; I'm getting ready to read the sequel now.

Well, I have to say that this is generally genuinely well written, especially the KGB baying for blood and Waverly being irritated that he's forced to negotiate terms. But I was irritated that there was no warning for rape, and I felt that it was unnecessary to the plot, even detrimental. If you wanted Illya's injuries to be the tipping point that forces them to start communicating again, it could have just been that Illya got beaten up. And then Napoleon could have demanded that Illya go to Waverly, and Illya could have refused. And that could have precipitated Napoleon leaving UNCLE. It really does frustrate me that this fic is so very well written, and yet is needlessly disturbing. I really did think the dialogue was incredibly well done, and Napoleon's resentment of Illya, and the way he tried to smother it, was very insightful. This was really very good. I just wish you could have left out the rape bit. I really do. :( *sigh* Anyway, forgive me. I just had to say my piece.

This story stands out as one of the best in MFU and you are among the best writers. Please gift us with something happier in the future, not a sequel per se (I've read the similarly sad sequel) but something new. Get these two back together! Please. Soon.

So dark and sad--I love it, though I have such a hard time looking at it. It's like one of those great tragic movies that I am totally riveted by, but don't know if I'd watch again; yet, if I see it on TV, I'll sit down and get totally absorbed once again.

This is beautifully written, full of emotion. But, oh god, please - let there be a sequel to dry my tears!
